Some of them leave the Sujoodus-Sahw when it is obligatory upon them; others perform the prostration in other than its correct place; some perform it before the salaam (salutation at the end of the prayer) even in cases when’ it has to be performed after the salaam; others prostrate after the salaam even when it should be performed before it. Therefore, it is very important to become aware of its rulings, especially for the Imaams whom the people follow in their prayers, and who have therefore taken on the responsibility of following that, which is correct and prescribed in their prayers, and of leading the Muslims upon that. So I wished to put before my brothers some of the rulings in this regard, hoping that Allaah, the Most High, will cause it to be of benefit to His believing servants.

The Garden of Abu Talhah
When the verse”Never will you attain the good reward [or righteousness] until you spend [in the way of Allah] from that which you love” was revealed, Abu Talhah, may Allah be pleased with him, went to the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Allah has revealed this, and the dearest of my wealth is Bayr-Haa’, (which was a garden that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam liked to visit, sit in the shade of its trees and drink from its well) I am giving it up for the sake of Allah and His Messenger hoping for its reward in the Hereafter, so use it in whichever way Allah likes.” Thereupon, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: “O Abu Talhah! Bakhin, Bakh, (an expression used to denote surprise and approval) this indeed is a profitable trade, your charity is accepted, and I see that you should give it to your relatives.” When this verse was revealed, the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, knew that this great rank of righteousness and its huge reward cannot be attained unless one spends the dearest of what he possesses.

Beard between Salaf and Khalaf

Still, it is amazing how ibn al-Qayyim was able to write this volume while traveling to Hajj, especially since he was away from the resources of knowledge and enduring the hardships of travel. It is a blessing from Allah (swt) that is was possible for him to do so.

The advice being firstly to myself, secondly to the du’aat (callers to Allah’s path) and thirdly to all my Muslim brothers in every part of the world – hoping that Allah, the Most High, will cause benefit through that which I have written and that the fruits of that may be reaped, now and in the future. In this treatise I restricted myself to one part of the hadeeth and that is “..and about that which he acted upon from the knowledge that he gained.
